Hi, I am Amanda and I have been in the process of setting up a Hearing Voices Network for the past couple of years. The Hearing Voices Network is a world wide organisation promoting recovery for people who have endured mental health problesm and was set up by Professor Marius Romme and Sandra Escher, in Holland.
Our local group has been in the formation for a couple of years and we have had a few members come and go. It started with a discussion with Pat Corrigan who works for Glasgow East Regeneration Agency. I said I was looking to start a group in Glasgow, and she said that she said that GERA could offer premises and she would like to help.
I had been involved with the Grampian Hearing Voices Network and the Scottish Hearing Voices Network as both a committee member and had a stint at being Chair of the Scottish Hearing Voices Network.
I myself am in recovery from mental health issues and have been involved with the services for about 10 years. My journey to healing has been long and slow, sometimes painful. I very rarely hear voices and not all hearing voices experiences are bad.
We hope to build a strong support group that can impact people's lives in a positive way. So please get in touch, you will be made very welcome. Carers, professionals and interested parties are welcome to come along.
Hugh Shaw
My name is Hugh. I have been involved with the Hearing Voices Network in Glasgow since the first meeting in GERA. When I started coming to the group, I was in the process of feeling better about myself, I was going to a woodwork group and was enjoying it very much.
After coming to the group , I now feel much more confident about myself. What I have got out of the group is the feeling that I am quite good at teaching people, this gives me a great sense of satisfaction.
